Step back in time and follow the trail of one of Valdres' most legendary outlaws.
According to local folklore, Hulabakken was a poor farm boy who became a notorious thief in the 18th century. He raided farms on both sides of the mountains and is said to have hidden his stolen treasures in caves high above Vaset. Despite many stories and searches over the years, the treasure has never been found.
The legend tells of Hulabakken's mysterious connection to the Huldra—a mythical forest spirit—who gave him a magical hat that made him invisible whenever he was escaping or carrying out his raids.
On our hike to Hulabakkhula (Hulabakken's Cave), we'll journey through beautiful mountain scenery while discovering local folklore, hidden caves, and stories about the mythical beings that have shaped Norwegian mountain traditions for centuries.
Who knows… maybe we'll even find a piece of Hulabakken's lost treasure.
